Pastel Paintings | Pastel paintings are created using soft pastels, which are sticks of pure pigment, the same pigment used for all fine art paints, with a small amount of binder added. When applied to an archival quality support and properly framed, pastel paintings are the most permanent of all media since there are no oils to cause cracking, or other media to cause fading. | The purity of the pigment in high-quality pastels is what gives the surprisingly rich colours and luminosity to the paintings. These are enhanced when sanded supports are used.
| | The original pastel paintings on this site are all created using high quality, light-fast, archival pastels and supports so you can be sure you will enjoy their beauty for many years to come. | | | | Caring for your Pastel Painting | | In order to keep down the cost of postage and the chance of glass breaking during shipping and damaging the painting, pastel paintings are normally shipped unframed. Comprehensive instructions on framing and caring for your painting will be included. Please make sure you read these carefully before unpacking your painting. Due to the nature of pastels they must be handled carefully before framing and must be framed behind glass. | | As with all fine art, pastel paintings should be hung out of direct sunlight and not in an area of high humidity. |
